THE WEST WAS NOT PREPARED TO GO ANYWHERE BEYOND WHAT IT COULD AFFORD TO HELP IRANIAN WOMEN, LIFE, LIBERTY REVOLUTION

IT IS HER ANNIVERSARY

The anniversary of the tragic death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian woman whose death in custody at the hands of the Morality Police sparked the Women, Life, Freedom movement last year, is approaching on 16 September 2023.

Last year, the international community, the West in particular led by the United State, was largely remained passive spectators.

Their behavior may be explained by an old Iranian saying that reads: "one does not wrap a head that does not ache". I would like it better to say, one does not warp a head until it aches. That seems to align more closely with the actions of the United States and its European allies in their current approach to dealing with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The Islamic Republic has, until now, been responsible for the deaths of thousands of Iranians, young and old, whether on streets, in custody, or with bodies discovered in various locations, including Iranian prisons, mountains, plains, dams, rivers and possibly mass graves, a troubling issue that may warrant investigation in the future.

Yet, the Biden administration does not appear to have reached a point of significant discomfort that would lead to a decisive action against Tehran. In fact, the Biden administration has recently struck a deal with Tehran, valued at $6 billion dollars to Tehran, in exchange for the release of several US hostages.

Primary focus of President Biden and his team may understandably center on ensuring the security and stability of the Persian Gulf and wider region, securing the smooth flow of petroleum products and trade--or perhaps an eye on the possibility of reelection of President Biden in 2024 which is a little far fetch for someone who sometimes forgets where he is!

It appears that as long as the interests of the United States and its Western allies are safeguarded, they tend to look the other way; without questioning the death of thunders of Iranian young boys and girls killed and thousands more who were blinded, tortured, sexually assaulted in front of their eyes.

They are committing a grave mistake. What may appear as a minor or even painless headache now could potentially be a life-threatening cancerous tumor capable of rapidly causing serious harm. The Shiite Islamic State that took control of Iran over four decades ago represents the flip side o the ISIS Islamic coin.

The US and the Western world would be significantly better off and safer if they stood in solidarity with the young Iranians taking to the streets on the anniversary of Mahsa Amini's tragic death. These brave individuals require more than just words of support; they need concrete actions.
